Safe Church Practices & Requirements
In 1991 the General Convention passed a resolution in which it declared that sexual abuse, exploitation, coercion and harassment of adults and minors by clergy and church employees are abuses of trust, a violation of the Baptismal Covenant, contrary to Christian character and are therefore wrong. The Church must be a safe place for all people, a place of respect, trust and caring.
All those who are clergy, employees, leaders, volunteers, key holders, or work with children, youth or other vulnerable populations in our parish are required to complete Safe Church training. You are required to recertify every 3 years. You are also required to review the Policies of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Safe Church training teaches us how to protect the children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our care from abuse. It also gives us tools to protect ourselves and each other from sexual harassment and exploitation. The Episcopal Church has updated its Safe Church Training utilizing the Praesidium Academy platform.

Every three years, all of the five Presidium Universal Training modules and any others which apply, should be taken with the Refresher modules if available.
