Welcome to St John's Huntington

August 17, 2021

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Thank you for your prayers for the people of Haiti as the latest earthquake has compounded their humanitarian crisis. We are in contact with Bishop Ogé Beauvoir and Food for the Poor. We have assured them of our prayers and financial assistance. I am writing now to invite you and your congregations to join this vital effort.

I am asking that each parish make a special appeal this Sunday, in direct support of the people of Haiti.

Please make all checks payable to “The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island” and send as follows:

Office of Stewardship

The Episcopal Diocese of Long Island

36 Cathedral Avenue

Garden City, NY 11530

Note: “Haiti Relief”

We will provide direct support in order to effectively keep the church’s critical pipeline of food and aid flowing to some of our most vulnerable brothers and sisters. Thank you for helping us to meet the basic human needs of the Body of Christ in Haiti.

Please continue to pray. We will keep you updated as this disaster continues to unfold, and through the extended period of recovery.

May the Easter promise of resurrection sustain us at this time.

Faithfully,

The Right Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano

Bishop of Long Island

A Prayer for Haiti

Almighty Father, God of mercies and giver of comfort, deal graciously, we pray, with the people of Haiti in the midst of the great suffering caused by the catastrophic earthquake. May they cast all their care on you and know the consolation of your love.

Give us the courage, zeal, wisdom and patience to assist them, not only in these first days and weeks of urgent need, but as they continue to need the care and partnership of all their sisters and brothers around the world in the long and difficult work of healing and rebuilding.

Grant eternal life to those who have died, healing to the injured and strength to all the survivors, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

(The Ven. Dr. J. Fritz Bazin, Archdeacon for Immigration and Social Concerns, Diocese of SE Florida)
