Meditative Song #1

Meditative Song #2

Opening Prayer

The Risen Christ breathed upon his disciples and said: Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. (John 20:22-23)

Music for Adoration of the Cross

Scripture Reading #1

John 14:16, 26, 16:7

Jesus, our peace, by your Holy Spirit you continue to be for us today what you were for your disciples on earth. In you Gospel, you assure us: “I will never leave you alone; I will send you the Holy Spirit as a support and a comfort, to remain with you forever.”

Sung Response

Scripture Reading #2

John 7:37-39

On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Period of Silence

Sung Response

Candle Lighting

All are invited to light a candle during the singing of Laudate Dominum.

Intercessory Prayer

After each intercession spoken or sung by the leader, the congregation will sing the response:

Kyrie #12

Jesus Christ, you come to transfigure us and renew us in the image of God: shine in our darkness.
(Kyrie)

Jesus Christ, light our hearts, you know our thirst: lead us to the wellspring of your Gospel.
(Kyrie)

Jesus Christ, light of the world, you shine on every human being: enable us to discern your presence in each person.
(Kyrie)

Jesus Christ, friend of the poor: open in us the gates of simplicity so that we can welcome you.
(Kyrie)

Jesus Christ, gentle and humble of heart: renew in us the spirit of childhood.
(Kyrie)

Jesus Christ, you send your Church to prepare your path in the world: open for all people the gates of your Kingdom.
(Kyrie)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever. Amen.

Concluding Prayer

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Please stay and sing, pray, and/or meditate during the closing song as long as you would like. When you are ready, you may leave quietly as we continue to sing. You are welcome to remain after the service as long as you desire for continued personal meditation and prayer.
